WEDNESDAY
Activity: *** First day of school. Students will be given a class syllabus containing the art class rules and procedures. This will be discussed to help students gain understanding.
THURSDAY
Activity: Students will be given a demonstration of a contour and blind contour drawing of a hand. Then, they will draw a contour drawing and a blind contour drawing of their non-dominant hand. This teaches students to pay attention to detail.
FRIDAY
Activity: Students will draw a final contour drawing of their non-dominant hand, doing their best work, and turn these in for a grade.
08/19- 08/23
MONDAY
Activity: Demonstration on how to create a value scale of an H, HB, B, 2B, 4B, & 6B pencil. Students will begin drawing their chart for each pencil, and start developing their value scales.
TUESDAY
Activity: Continue working on value scales.
WEDNESDAY

FRIDAY
Continue value scales. These will be due on Monday.
08/26- 08/30
MONDAY
Students will be learning about the elements of art called "texture". They will see a demonstration of various textures, and how to draw them.
TUESDAY
Students will practice drawing various textures in their sketchbooks.
WEDNESDAY
Students will continue drawing textures, adding more detail to give a 3-dimensional effect.
THURSDAY
Students will choose letters and practice drawing them filled with textures.
FRIDAY
Continue texture letters
09/02- 09/06
MONDAY- FRIDAY
Continue texture letters. These are due on Friday.
09/09- 09/13
MONDAY
Students will see a demonstration of how to begin drawing objects using basic shapes.
TUESDAY
Students will apply what they learned yesterday to draw wooden mannequins. They will begin by drawing the figure using basic shapes, then making adjustments to create the correct shapes.
WEDNESDAY- FRIDAY
After practicing the students will draw a mannequin on final paper and begin adding shading and value to make the transition from shapes to forms.
09/16- 09/20
MONDAY- THURSDAY
Students will continue mannequin drawings. These are due on Thursday.
FRIDAY
Students will be introduced to the drawing method of "Zentangle."
A demonstration will be given on how to create "Zentangle" designs. Then, the students will begin practicing various designs.
Students will turn in their folders for a folder check.
09/23- 09/27
MONDAY- WEDNESDAY
Students will continue practicing "Zentangle."
THURSDAY & FRIDAY
Students will decide on a design for the final "Zentangle," by dividing up the paper and adding various designs in each section.
Sketchbooks will be graded.
09/30- 10/04
MONDAY- FRIDAY
Continue "Zentangle" project. It is due on Friday.
10/07- 10/11
MONDAY
Review for 9 weeks exams
TUESDAY
9 weeks exams will be given today.
WEDNESDAY
Students will discuss various artists and choose one to research for a Powerpoint presentation.
THURSDAY & FRIDAY
Students will create a rubric to follow for the Powerpoint presentation.
10/14- 10/18
MONDAY- FRIDAY
Students will continue researching their artist, making sure to include all of the requirements from the rubric.
10/21- 10/25
MONDAY- THURSDAY
Continue working on presentations.
FRIDAY
Students will begin presenting their Powerpoint presentations.
Their classmates will give them a score based on the rubric, and these scores will be considered when figuring the student's final grade for the project.
10/28- 11/01

MONDAY & TUESDAY
Finish presentations.
WEDNESDAY-FRIDAY
Students will be given a list of drawing suggestions and will spend the rest of the week drawing 3 well-developed drawings that will be graded.
11/11- 11/15
MONDAY
Students will read for most of the class and draw a picture of what they read in their journals.
TUESDAY- FRIDAY
Students will work on a project for Literacy Night. The theme is "Let's Taco 'Bout It." Students will plan, sketch, and begin creating tacos of various sizes using paper, glue, poster, crepe paper, and other supplies. They may also choose to create other related objects such as peppers, and banners which spell out the theme. Students will be given a grade on their project. These taco items will be hung along the hallway
to enhance the atmosphere of the Literacy Night program.
