3rd period Art-7th & 8th Grade Art Assignments

We recently discussed how to draw basically anything using basic shapes.We also practiced this approach by drawing the wooden mannequins. We used an oval for the head, a triangle for the upper torso, cylinders for the arms, small circles for the connecting joints, etc. Continue practicing this technique by drawing the following:

#1. Draw any type of bird (duck, goose, parrot, penguin, etc.) by first drawing the basic shapes for each part of the bird.
Then sketch the same basic shapes again and begin to make changes and modify the figure to begin looking more realistic.
Finally draw the bird without using any basic shapes. You may practice drawing the bird with basic shapes as much as you need to, but the beginning, middle, and end result are what will be graded.
#2. Using this same technique, draw 3 other individual objects. These may be sketched using shapes as much as is necessary, but use the beginning, middle, and end sketches for the final work, as described above.
* If you do not have access to plain, or unlined paper, you may use notebook paper or whatever is available.
** If you do not have a sharpened pencil, or if you prefer to use a different drawing utensil, you may use a ballpoint pen. A pen with permanent ink works best. There are lots of tutorials available on youtube with tips for drawing with a pen.
This will be due when we return to school on the first day.

Using the previous information concerning "drawing, beginning with basic shapes," choose 3 items from the following list to draw. You will use the "shapes technique" and then develop your drawing into a more realistic, 3-dimensional object, using shading and blending, as much as possible. Instead of blending with a blending stump, you can blend with a paper towel, (folded and gathered into a point,) a Kleenex, (also gathered into a point,) or your finger.
