Due:
YOUR FINAL PROJECT WILL BE DUE BY NEXT MONDAY, DECEMBER 14TH, @ 11:59 P.M. ANYTHING THAT ISN'T TURNED IN BY THAT TIME WILL RESULT IN A ZERO. YOUR PROJECT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE ANYTHING THAT IS ELABORATE OR TIME-CONSUMING DUE TO THE SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. I WOULD SUGGEST DRAWING AND ADDING SHADING AND BLENDING. NEXT WEEK WILL BE A FINAL CHANCE TO SUBMIT MISSING ASSIGNMENTS. YOU WON'T RECEIVE FULL CREDIT, BUT PARTIAL CREDIT IS BETTER THAN FAILING. PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE AND TURN IN THE ASSIGNMENTS. THERE HAVEN'T BEEN THAT MANY, AND I'VE GIVEN YOU WAY MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME!

STUDENTS: After giving you a few days to get caught up on your assignments, we need to continue working on our art project. The next assignment will involve patterns. Patterns are everywhere. Buildings have lots of patterns with rows of windows, brick, roofs with shingles or tile, floors, etc. Clothing often has patterns, as well as furniture, and the list goes on and on. Patterns can completely change the feeling of a piece of art. It can create a calming feeling, a chaotic feeling, etc. You will be ceating artwork using patterns through a drawing style called Zentangle®️. This was created a few years ago by an artist named Maria Thomas, and it has become really popular. She was drawing on a manuscript that had a large letter in the middle, so she started filling in the spaces with different patterns. She spent hours doing this and said it was like she was in a trance. Later she compared the experience as therapy. Today, Zentangle is actually used in therapy for individuals with Parkinson's and other dibilitating diseases. I will post several pages of examples of Zentangle®️ patterns for you to choose from. There are also tons of Zentangle®️ patterns and ideas on the internet. I want you to choose at least 10 different Zentangle®️ patterns and incorporate them into a design. You will practice drawing them and by Monday you will need to be ready to start the final project of Zentangle®️. Most of you should have a small technical pen that I handed out, but if you don't, you can use a fine tip Sharpie®️ or any writing utensil with permanent ink. You should be able to purchase one at Dollar General or Farmer's Market for a dollar or two. If you would prefer to borrow one from the art department, let me know asap and I will have one available for you to pick up at school. The final also needs to be drawn on cardstock since you are using a marker-type pen. If you don't have anything, I will also make this available at school if you will let me know. You may lightly draw your Zentangle®️ in pencil, and then you can trace that with the pen. When it is completely dry you should erase any pencil marks that you can so that it looks neater. You may color using colored pencils, shade and blend with your pencil, or fill in some patterns with a sharpie. Do not use the fine tip one to do the drawing. It uses too much ink. Find a regular sharpie or let me know so you can pick that up as well. Some of the examples have a step-by-step illustration of how to draw some designs. You can also find youtube videos showing you how to draw many of these designs. Please email me if you have any trouble. I am assigning a temporary due date of next Friday, but if I see that most of you need more time, I will extend that deadline. I hope you all are doing well!

INTRODUCTION TO ART/ THE ELEMENTS OF ART
Study the article '7 Elements of Art,' and make sure you understand the information. These elements will be broken down one by one. We will discuss each one and complete an assignment to show understanding.
